AREL Middle School

IB Middle Years Programme

AREL College has cemented its commitment to international educational standards with the MYP authorization it received in 2007. This experience makes our school one of the most established and experienced IB schools in Turkey.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP), designed for students aged 10 - 16, is an international educational framework covering grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. This program supports students in becoming creative, critical, and reflective thinkers, while enabling them to make meaningful connections between lessons and real life. MYP is based on the development of 21st century skills such as communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement.

MYP has a flexible structure that can meet the learning outcomes of both national and international curricula. It is a program that builds upon the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed in the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

AREL College, adopting the "learning to learn" approach, integrates the philosophy of this international program with its own educational philosophy, implementing the MYP holistically and effectively alongside the Ministry of National Education curriculum.

Service as Action

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) integrates academic learning with real-life experiences. In this context, "Service as Action" is one of the program's core components.

Service as Action activities at AREL Middle School aim to transform the knowledge and skills students acquire in the classroom into social benefit. Projects carried out in the areas of environment, education, and social responsibility contribute to the development of students' leadership, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. Students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop into environmentally conscious and responsible individuals by applying this knowledge.

These activities are planned in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and taking into account the students' interests. Students meet regularly in groups they form themselves, under the guidance of their advisor teachers. Throughout the process, they conduct research, identify needs, communicate with relevant institutions and organizations, and actively manage project processes.

Having collaborations led by students ensures ownership of the process while also significantly contributing to students gaining real-life experience.
